Artist, art director and designer Tommaso Lesnick is drawn to items that come in multiples. He saves these objects that might otherwise be discarded, in the hope that they might someday become something new. “The objects then sit, waiting patiently for the opportunity to take on new life,” Lesnick says. “Over the years I amassed hundreds of paperclips that I had bent. They seemed so sculptural and elemental; they cried out for equally considered pedestals on which to present themselves. So I made small hand-carved wood bases, each as unique and figured as the clips, to elevate the humble paperclips to new heights.” Lesnick loves the challenge of working with other unorthodox materials like string, tape and banding film. He works and exhibits in Chicago and surrounding communities.
