Oriole Park
About This Library
Oriole Park Branch opened June 1, 2004 and was dedicated June 22, 2004, replacing a storefront. The branch has artwork funded through the Percent for Art Ordinance administered by the City of Chicago Public Art Program and a reading garden.
Oriole Park Branch features environmentally sustainable construction under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System developed by the U.S. Green Building Council.
The branch began as a bookmobile service in the early 1960s. In 1965, the branch moved into a storefront in the Harlem-Foster Shopping Center, becoming the first Chicago Public Library branch located in a shopping mall. In April 1971, Oriole Park Branch moved to a storefront at 5201 N. Oketo Avenue, where it remained until opening at the present site.
