Special Collections Exhibits

Postcard. Recreation [Navy] Pier, seen from the Lake, Chicago, Illinois, ca. 1921. (CCW 6.47)
The Exhibits Unit administers the exhibition program at the Harold Washington Library Center. Galleries include the Chicago Gallery on the north side of the third floor, the Congress Corridor on the south side of the main floor, and the Special Collections Exhibit Halls located on the 9th floor.

The Unit works with HWLC curators to install a number of shows drawn primarily from the Library's collections. The Unit maintains a permanent exhibition on the life and career of Harold Washington, for whom the building is named. Exhibitions are supplemented by public programs that include book discussions, films, gallery talks, lectures, workshops, and other related activities.

Galleries are open to the public during regular building hours. All exhibitions and their related programs are free to the public. For information, please call the Exhibit Hotline (312) 747-4649.
