About this Library

Douglass Branch was redesigned in 1980 and rededicated in 1981.  It was named the Frederick A. Douglass Branch, in honor of the former slave and abolitionist.  The building’s design is Art Deco and the interior features four felt banners, designed by artist Emilio Cruz. The works of art were funded through the Percent-for-Art Ordinance administered by the City of Chicago Public Art Program.
