Daley, Richard M.-W Humboldt
About This Library
The Richard M. Daley Branch is named in honor of Mayor Richard M. Daley, who during his 22 years as mayor provided unprecedented support for the growth of libraries in Chicago. During Mayor Daley’s term in office, the City of Chicago built or renovated 59 new libraries.
The Richard M. Daley Branch offers collections in English and Spanish, including books, newspapers, magazines, educational and entertainment DVDs; databases for online research, computers to access the Internet, programs and other services for all ages. The branch also houses YOUmedia, a digital library space that connects youth, books and digital technologies to encourage and support exploration, creation, learning and collaboration. YOUmedia, a partnership between the Chicago Public Library and Digital Youth Network at DePaul University, is supported by the MacArthur Foundation, the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program, the City of Chicago and the Chicago Public Library Foundation. The branch provides the services of a Teacher in the Library and a CyberNavigator, generously sponsored by Walmart through the Chicago Public Library Foundation.
The branch features environmentally sustainable construction. Gold certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System developed by the U.S. Green Building Council is anticipated.
