About this Library

Bucktown-Wicker Park Branch opened on July 10, 2006 in a two-story facility.  The new branch replaced two smaller storefront libraries, West Town Branch and Damen Avenue Branch.

Bucktown-Wicker Park Branch takes its name from two communities.  The name Bucktown dates to Polish immigrants who raised goats in the area, according to local lore.  Wicker Park takes its name from developers Charles and Joel Wicker, who donated a square for a public space.

The branch features environmentally sustainable construction under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council.
