Are You Ready Teens? It’s NaNoWriMo Time!

Charge your laptop battery, create your perfect iTunes playlist and pin up those inspirational quotes because NaNoWriMo is here! This will be my first year participating, and I'm super pumped about it.

Participants of National Novel Writing Month commit to writing 50,000 words between November 1 and November 30. For teens there is a special Young Writers Program and resources to help you get going and stay motivated.

Looking for inspiration? Here are a few titles sure to summon your muse.

Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld is the perfect book to read this month because we get to see Darcy work through the process of editing last fall's NaNoWriMo project for Real Publishing and also read the final draft of said book. I love how both stories feed off each other. And can we have a sequel please?

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell is a double wammy. It's a NaNoWriMo success project AND a book all about writing. Cath's story pulled me in so much I actually yelled out loud at a certain character. (He deserved it. No, seriously.)

It's Not Easy Being Green is a collection of quotes by Kermit creator Jim Henson and the people who worked with him. It's sure to provide inspiration for the dreaded mid-month slump.

And if those aren't enough, remember that some former NaNoWriMo projects have been traditionally published including Erin Morgenstern’s The Night Circus and Marissa Meyer’s Cinder.
