Dying Is Easy, Comedy Is Hard

After going to a comedy club to see Jake Johannsen, I remembered how much fun a live show can be. I laughed so much my stomach hurt—does that count as a workout? Jake combines great writing, acting and timing. Since I don’t get out that often (married, two kids, mortgage), fun books are a necessity.

One of my favorites is local author/blogger Jen Lancaster. She is one of the few authors who make me laugh out loud while I'm reading. She has a series of memoirs that chronicle being laid off, evicted, trying to lose weight and reporting her neighbor as a possible terrorist.  Her latest is The Tao of Martha. She's trying to reboot her life—reorganize, be elegant and enjoy entertaining. Can she channel her inner Martha Stewart?  Is it wise to operate a glue gun while drinking?

Her first two memoirs in the series are guaranteed to cheer up any gloomy day:

Bitter Is the New Black

Bright Lights
