Celebrate Teen Read Week

Every year in October, libraries across the nation celebrate reading for the fun of it through Teen Read Week, but reading for fun isn't just for one week! There are so many books out there for you that there's even a list of nominees for the Teens Top Ten of the year.

Lately, I have found some fantastic books including one of my favorites, We Were Liars, that kept me guessing until the end. The beautiful, descriptive language grabs you from the start, and then you're thrown into a story full of twists and turns. This intriguing tale of friendship, family and how they crash into each other with harrowing results had me constantly picking my jaw up off the floor.

As a novice horror story reader, I enjoyed the creepiness of Through the Woods. The vividness and variety of the stories and illustrations in this graphic novel had me flying through it. This suspenseful collection of five stories covers murder, monsters, family and ghosts, and it's a perfect book to read over and over again.

But if you're not into horror or mystery, what about ESP? A homeroom class in Don't Even Think About It gets ESP from a faulty flu shot. The hilarious "silent" conversations and secrets that spread so easily through their thoughts keeps this one rolling along while the homeroom decides if they should let anyone know about their powers. Would you want to give it up?

What will you read for fun this week?
